Cyngor Sawlch y Gaeaf i Rieni / Winter Illness Advice for Parents
Fri 13 Jan 2023Annwyl Rieni a Gwarcheidwaid,
Cyngor cyn mynd yn ôl i'r ysgol i rieni yng Nghymru er mwyn helpu i amddiffyn yn erbyn salwch y gaeaf
Cyhoeddwyd: 6 Ionawr 2023
Mae arbenigwyr Iechyd Cyhoeddus yn atgoffa rhieni yng Nghymru i gadw plant i ffwrdd o'r ysgol os ydynt yn sâl gyda gwres, yn dilyn cynnydd mewn salwch fel ffliw. Mae'n un o nifer o gamau syml y gall rhieni eu cymryd i amddiffyn eu plentyn a lleihau lledaeniad salwch y gaeaf pan fydd plant yn dychwelyd i'r ysgol a meithrinfeydd yng Nghymru'r wythnos nesaf.
Mae Ffliw a Covid-19 yn lledaenu ar lefelau uchel ar hyn o bryd ac mae cynnydd mewn achosion o'r dwymyn goch hefyd yn cael ei nodi.
Dylai plant sy'n sâl gyda thwymyn aros gartref nes eu bod yn teimlo'n well ac mae'r gwres ar ben. Mae gwres yn dymheredd uchel.
Meddai Dr Graham Brown, Ymgynghorydd Rheoli Clefydau Trosglwyddadwy ar gyfer Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru; “Mae hefyd yn bwysig atgoffa plant am bwysigrwydd golchi eu dwylo i osgoi lledaenu germau a dal peswch a thisian mewn hancesi papur. Dylai oedolion hefyd geisio aros gartref pan fyddant yn sâl. Os oes rhaid iddynt fynd allan pan fyddant yn sâl, mae'n syniad da gwisgo gorchudd wyneb i amddiffyn eraill.”
Y ffordd orau o amddiffyn yn erbyn dal ffliw y gaeaf hwn yw i'r rhai sy'n gymwys gael y brechlyn ffliw. Mae ei sgil-effeithiau yn ysgafn ac fel arfer dim ond yn para am ychydig ddyddiau.
Gall plant gael brechlyn ffliw am ddim sy'n chwistrell drwynol syml a diogel.
Mae hyn yn cynnwys:
- Pob plentyn mewn ysgol gynradd
- Pob plentyn ym mlynyddoedd 7 i 11 mewn ysgol uwchradd
- Pob plentyn sy'n ddwy neu dair oed ar 31 Awst 2022
- Hefyd plant chwe mis oed neu drosodd sydd ag unrhyw rai o'r cyflyrau iechyd hirdymor sy'n golygu eu bod yn wynebu risg uwch o ffliw.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Back to school advice for parents in Wales to help protect against winter illnesses
Published: 6 January 2023
Public Health experts are reminding parents in Wales to keep children away from school and childcare settings if they are unwell and have a fever, following an increase in illnesses like flu. It’s one of a number of simple steps parents can take to protect their child and to minimise the spread of winter illnesses when children return to schools and nurseries in Wales next week.
Flu and Covid-19 are currently circulating at high levels and an increase in cases of scarlet fever is also being reported.
Children who are unwell with a fever (a high temperature) should stay at home until they feel better and the fever is over.
Dr Graham Brown, Consultant in Communicable Disease Control for Public Health Wales said:
“It is also important to remind children about the importance of washing their hands to avoid germs spreading and to catch coughs and sneezes in tissues.
Adults should also try to stay home when unwell. If they have to go out when unwell, it is a good idea to wear a face covering to protect others.”The best way to protect against catching flu this winter is for those eligible to get the flu vaccine. Children can have a free flu nasal spray which is safe and effective.
It is available for:
- All children in primary school
- All children in secondary school years 7 to 11
- All children who are aged two or three on 31 August 2022
- Children aged six months or over and who have any of the long-term health conditions that puts them at increased risk from flu.
Diolch / Thank you,
Mr M Tomos

Ymgynghoriad Trafnidiaeth Gyhoeddus / Public Transport Consultation with Transport for Wales - Lewis Road
Fri 13 Jan 2023Dear Parents and Guardians,
A new public transport link from Cardiff Central to Newport Road via the Bay has long been an ambition of both Transport for Wales (TfW), the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council.
Transport for Wales is exploring potential options for a new public transport link between Cardiff Central and Newport Road, via the Cardiff Bay line and Porth Teigr. This would be a future stage of improvements following the completion of the Butetown station and the planned upgrades to the Cardiff Bay line and Cardiff Bay station and would be subject to securing funding.
In the information pack (click on the PDF link below) option 4 on the tram-train network would put a station on Lewis Road. I would strongly encourage that if parents would like to see the station at Lewis Road, to make TFW aware via the online website or directly contacting alex.chung@tfw.wales with comments.
A seven-week consultation will be launched and the public and stakeholders invited to take part. Corridor options will be presented to the public and wider feedback obtained. The findings from the consultation will inform the outline business case for a potential future line extension from Cardiff Central to Newport Road, so that we can start preparing a proposal.
Following the findings report from the consultation, we’ll look to reduce the number of route options to one, with a view to proceed with planning, subject to funding being secured.
You can learn more about the project by joining us for workshops and drop-in sessions. To find out how you can get involved, visit tfw.wales/engagement.
There will a consultation workshop on 23 Jan at 5-5:30pm with our project team. If parents or staff would like to attend, please visit the TFW website>Projects>Community and stakeholder engagement>Cardiff. This is where you will find the online teams meeting for the 23rd.
Make your voice heard and ensure your area gets the best transport links.
Diolch yn fawr,
Mr M Tomos

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to thank everyone who supported our Christmas Fair tonight. It was so nice to see so many people there and everyone enjoying themselves.
I would like to pay a special thanks to the members of our parents and teachers association for their work in organising. Months of work have gone into ensuring that the fair was a success.
Once again thank you all for your support especially in such challenging times with the cost of living. We look forward to seeing you at the Christmas concerts next week. We will announce the amount of money that was raised over the next few days.

Cyngor Adnabod a Thrin y Dwymyn goch a chlefyd Streptococol Ymledol / Advice on Recognising and Treating Scarlet Fever and invasive streptococcal disease
Wed 07 Dec 2022Scarlet fever and invasive streptococcal disease
We are writing to you with some guidance since this infection mostly affects children aged under 10 years.
Signs and Symptoms of Scarlet fever
It can be caught through direct contact with an infected person or through the air via droplets from coughs or sneezes.
The characteristic symptom are:
• a widespread, fine pink-red rash that feels like sandpaper to touch.
Other symptoms include a
• high temperature,
• a flushed face
• a red, swollen tongue.
Treatment is straightforward and usually involves a course of penicillin antibiotics.
Complications of scarlet fever and streptococcal infection
Most cases of scarlet fever cause no complications, especially if the condition is properly treated. However, complications in the early stages of the disease can include:
• ear infection,
• throat abscess,
• sinusitis,
• pneumonia
• meningitis
Early signs of invasive disease include:
• high fever,
• severe muscle aches,
• local muscle tenderness,
• redness at the site of a wound.
If there are any concerns about invasive disease, then urgent medical advice must be sought.
Guidelines and actions
Be vigilant for pupils who become ill with a fever, sore throat or rash. If your child is unwell seek medical advice.
Anyone with scarlet fever should withdraw from School for 24 hours after the commencement of appropriate antibiotic treatment.
If 2 or more cases of scarlet fever occur at school within the same 10-day period, we will contact the Health Protection Team.
Good hand hygiene and avoidance of spread of respiratory secretions (as per influenza- “catch it, bin it, kill it”) can help to prevent the spread of infection
